Premium, middle grade or regular? (merged threads)
Use Sunoco ultra 94! I get much more milage on a tank with it then I do over regular not to mention it burns cleaner than regular gas so in the long run........you probobly end up saving in the end.
I've been in Santa Monica, California for the past 2 weeks and was checking gas prices for 87 octane. The cheapest was $1.99 per gallon and went up to $2.69 per gallon close to LAX Airport. Wow, what a range in prices.

If that's the case flip, tell me why I get more milage on a tank of Sunoco Ultra 94 Gasoline over regular 8 octane? Between 60 & 75 miles worth
. Traveling the same route at the same time of day. My ES also idles better with slightly better acceleration especially at a stop light.
I also tested it when I was on my driving on my honeymoon to Florida.......same deal.

And your "it burns cleaner than regular gas so in the long run........you probobly end up saving in the end" comment is false because" still doesn't hold because you think you are getting better gas because you pay more for it. Biggest misconception out there. I will quote his article from the webpage I found below
http://www.handymanusa.com/articles/octane.html):As a rule, high octane gasoline does not outperform regular octane in preventing engine deposits from forming, in removing them, or in cleaning your car’s engine. "
If you do some research, other articles will say the same thing. I have a friend who is a process operator for BP in Carson, and has told me the same thing time after time from all the years of working in the industry.

Actually I didn't do the exact stretch of highway on I-75......I went thru the mountains on Sunoco ultra 94 & tanked up with regular at the bottom of Tennesee with regular to go thru Georgia (had the air cond on in all the states as well). I was doing prety well the same speeds in the mountain states & flat thru Georgia, yet I got better gas milage in the mountains with the 94 than I did on regular on flat Gerorgia highway.
So regardless of the articles that are available......I like to go on 'hand's on' experence & that long drive was a very good test to see the difference in what different octane fuels did at least for my ES.

Hi-octane fuel alone makes no difference as far as engine cleaning goes...you guys both know that all that high-octane does is burn slower and resist pinging and detonation. However, many brands of High-octane gas DO keep the engine cleaner, not because of octane, but because of marketing....the oil companies usually put more (and better) detergent packages in the hi-test simply because it costs more.
If you run low-octane or cheaper brands it is a good idea to dump in a can of good fuel-system cleaner like BG44K every once in a while. I myself am sold on Chevron and its Techroline package...and to a lesser extent on BP/Amoco and Mobil. These three brands generally have good detergent additives.

Canada only has the choice of 4 major oil companies.....Sunoco is by far the best available here & it's also got the lowest sulphur content ppm which helps on Emmission tests as well.
Bottom line, yes I do get better mileage, better acceleration than with regular fuel......I've calculated everything & I actually it does not cost me more in the end to put ultra 94 in my tank.....Plus I buy the premium when it's at it's cheapest during the week so it cost's as much as regular on a high day!
Both the ES330 and Camry V6 use the same 3MZ-FE engine. Yet, the Camry owner's manual calls for regular fuel while the ES330 manual calls for premium fuel.
Are there programming differences between the Toyota and the Lexus to account for the different fuel requirements? (In other words, using premium fuel in the Toyota wouldn't achieve the same engine performance as the Lexus even though the engine is the same).
Or is the programming exactly the same? (In other words, the 3MZ-FE in the Lexus is equally adept at adapting to regular fuel as the 3MZ-FE in the Toyota. And the 3MZ-FE in the Toyota is equally capable of boosting performance in response to the use of premium fuel).
