one side of the heatshield on my dads es rusted off so the heat shield is hanging and resting on the muffler and everytime he accelerates, there is a rattling noise. Is it ok for me just to remove the heat shield?

 

I wouldnt remove it, no. Id try to hang it up out of the way w/ zipties or whatever.
