Toyota quit selling M/T anything because manual transmissions simply do not sell. Less than 2% of the ES 300's sold in 92 & 93 were sold with the E153. Less than 4% of the 92-93 Camry's sold with the E153.
Toyota's also always had an avalible STxxx transmission in Japan & far Asia for the AWD Camry platform. It dissipeared from the US in 1991. Why? Nobody bought any of them in the first place.
E153 was last avalible on the Camry paltform in 1993. 1997 had a revised E153 in small supply (again... Didn't sell any of them so they went away). and the solara has the later E351 for the i4's that can/have been mated to the v6's.
In my opinion, people would rather hold a cell phone in thier hand than a shifter. I wish M/Ts were more commom on Toyotas now like they used to be. You can still get a Honda Accord V6 w/ a 6 speed manual and the M/T has been available on every gen Accord. But now you cant even get a M/T in a camry unless its a slowass 4 banger. Kinda pisses me off...
When North America lost the M/T maxima, you can kiss any hope of a Japanese luxury sedan with a M/T goodbye. It was the onyl one worth having anyway. Accords are ****ty compaired.
Atleast for now there's subaru, but be careful. Owned by TMC... LoL!
