It will take about 4-6 months until you get discounts of about $2-3k off.

It also depends on the options you have in the car. Some options are more pricey and prevalent than others. If you know the car's invoice price (use tools like MSN or Cars.com) and you know what you want to pay, you can look for a dealer that will suit your needs.

Depends on supply and demand. If supply is high, and demand low, you can bet they will start discounting today. There is no magic number or formula.

during my visits to dealerships and car show (new orleans and Atlanta, this past weekend), I was told that as long as the ES350 is selling like it is, no discounts will be offered (duh!).

However, I was also told that we might see some new financing options coming down the road, as competitors are starting to offer 2.9% financing on some of their models. So, not necessarily a discount, but with current financing at 5 - 7% (depends on credit score and credit union or financing company), a 2.9% loan could save you quite a bit of money.

Has anyone else heard something like this?

This has been very fun to follow everyone on the forum for the past several months and thank you all for your insights. My simple take on pricing and discounts which you can bank:

Watch supply and demand. Unlike the way Cadillac launched the SRX(too loaded) the cars I have seen here in Cinci are all pretty basic which should get them moving off the lots. But the goal is 60-70m units and that will involve discounting at some point.

If you are looking for a sure time to save I would predict Lexus wanting to roadblock the G35 intro with a combination financing/discount option and would bet they would have the promotional inventory available to meet the spike. I think the timing for the G35 is November so look for some Halloween candy from Lexus in October.
