3rd gear shifting issue
2000 ES300
Hello All;
I had to on a 90 mile cross country today and noticed it had not shifted to high gear. I eventually got it shifted by manually putting it in 2nd and back to "D".
Does this sound like a Vacuum issue or is the Tranny about to fail?
Also, once I get off the highway, sometimes it is really sluggish for a while. I thought perhaps it was the engine but maybe it is also coming from the trany.
Does any of this sound like a typical problem?

Hello,
Any Check Engine Lights?
Did the shift issue occur only once?
What do you mean by being "sluggish"?
Diagnosing transmissions over the internet can be quite tricky, it is very difficult to really understand how a car behaves from written text.. ES300 actually has 4 gears, including overdrive, so are you sure it had issues shifting specifically into 3rd gear? As a fail-safe method, ECU can forbid the transmission to go into overdrive if it detects critical issues, like bad knock or TPS sensor, etc., which can also explain why a car feels a little sluggish. For starters, try disconnecting a battery for about 10 minutes and see if that will fix the issue, other than that, check the transmission fluid, see if it is black or burnt.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

You are right. it is the fourth gear (I didn't know there was one). This prob only shows up after its been on the Interstate a good while.
he Fluid looks alright but I am sure it is overdue for change.
Monday I am taking it to the Transmission place to be evaluated.
