Front Axle Seals
On my 2000 ES, I have both Axle seals leaking at this point, and while not leaking terribly, they will need replaced soon enough. Guess it's going to be one of those really expensive repairs to replace two $20 gaskets. Has anyone had a dealership, or a indy do this repair, and if so, what $$ am I looking at?
Thanks, JBL |
I don't know book value would guess 3 hours + parts. Could be way more if the RH axle carrier bearing is seized in place which is common.

Man, I did this on my 05 for the driver's side. What a pain in the butt... super difficult even though it should be simplistic. Using a seal driver, there was just no way to get a good whack at it and due to the tolerances, you need some even pressure to get it seated, if your pressure is off, then the seal will pop out of place. I got so frustrated with it, I got it in "good enough" and left it. Didn't leak for months. Eventually, I just had a shop go in an redo it to get it right.
I think the time was about 2 hours, which sucks because having 'done' it, it's really only about an hour. For the ES330 on the driver's side, it would probably be a lot easier if you pulled the strut so you had more room. |
