ES300 sludge problem
So I ended up doing a full oil change, cut open the filter and there really wasnt any obvious metal on the filter, it was only dirty. I probably made the mistake of putting synthec oil when I changed the oil ~2 weeks ago when the previous owner probably put regular oil in there + being poorly maintained. I must have unclogged some stuff when I added the synthec oil which explained why the filter was so dirty that quick? I am quite surprised that there wasnt lots of metal flakes in the filter I don't know what to think. The engine is clearly dirty/sludgy from poor maintenance but there wasnt metal in the filter. Or if there was it was very very hard to see. I'm thinking of opening the other valve cover in the back to see how bad it is in there.
Putting in synthetic didn't cause any problems, it is not some magic and suddenly breaks crud loose. The filter is going to get dirty very quickly as the sludge dissolves that's why you have to change the filter and oil frequently. If possible use the largest oil filter that fits on the engine, Valvoline High Mileage motor oil is also good as it has more detergents.
But honestly because the "metal" thing is inconclusive get an oil analysis done.

Alright I'm gonna look into this! It does give me some hope that its not that bad because I didnt see metal in the filter but better be safe and get the oil checked out. Thanks a lot for the help and guidance!
Hello guys. I just purchased used lexus which is in very decent condition after I bought it I noticed next day when I started in the morning and then i saw blue puff smoke. I guess i m screwed. Car has only 76000 miles on it.
Also, consider the car is 20 years old and rubber deteriorates with time, not just use.
I would consider this the most likely cause. Consider and additive or oil that will condition the seals, like the valve stem seals which often cause this. I bought a '98 my suv a few years ago that did this. After six months or so using Mobil 1 High Mileage and some lubegard ("biotech" flavor), the problem went away.
