Brake replacement options
As a replacement option for my 2003 4ES, will the brakes from 6ES or 7ES direct fit?
I’m talking about a complete replacement, rotors, calipers and pads. |
Hello,
There is not much you can do about your stock brake system, it already has two-piston setup and a pretty descent size. You can also opt for a brake system off of second generation Toyota Highlander or third generation Lexus RX350, which just has bigger rotors, but for that, you will have to replace rotors, pads, calipers, and opt for a new set of 17 inch rims, if you don't have them already, since the new setup won't clear stock rims. In the end, it makes sense to do something about XV20 ES300 brakes, since those are not that great. In your case though, I wouldn't say it makes a ton of sense to really go into there, especially considering that it is not a sports car. Hope this helps and best of luck! |
I already have a GS 2013 18” wheels on.
I was thinking of getting bigger brake rotors from the latest generations ES just to fill the wheels. |

If you already have 18 inch wheels, and you need to replace the whole brake system, your best bet will probably be to get the brake system off of 2nd gen Highlander or 3rd gen RX350, which has bigger rotors, bigger pads, and double-piston calipers. From what I was able to piece together, those should technically bolt right up to the stock internals. If you want to go really wild, there are folks on the internet that managed to squeeze Brembo brakes off of Lancer Evo 9 in their ES, that should give you all the stopping power in the world. Just as a disclaimer, I am not sure that it is doable, that is just what I found online. Probably the best way to approach it will be to get a bigger caliper bracket and see if it will fit, that way you are not risking spending a ton of money. And if you are going to upgrade your brakes, please let us know how it went. Hope this helps and best of luck! |
