Lost my key, need help at replacement. (2000 ES 300)
Apparently I'm good at losing **** since I also forgot the password to my old CL account.
Anyways, was out on a road trip with friends and lost my key & key FOB. I have scoured the internet and sites like Reddit for answers. Some say it's as simple as getting a FOB/key from Amazon and having a locksmith cut and program it. Others say you have to go to a dealer and spend a fortune. What is the best (and least expensive) way to go about doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
The ECU needs to be programmed, a new cut key registered to the ECU. Then the remote programmed. Some locksmiths do this, there are services on Ebay that do. Last resort is the dealer.

Do you have any recommendations for a site where I can a the key & remote? For instance I would just buy this:https://www.remotesremotes.com/produ...2v-4c-long.htm Then find a locksmith to cut and program it? Some sites say you can program it yourself. Thank you for your help. |
If all keys are lost you have to either have your ecu "virginized" which puts it into registration mode that will allow you to program 3 keys. Or you can have keys written directly to the ecu so it will be ready to start.
To do this the ecu has to be removed and in most cases with Toyota or Lexus the eeprom will have to be removed from the board and programmed. It is not too difficult of process to do at home, just pretty involved. Search ecu virginizing hack on this site. I usually program 1 or 2 ecus a week for the Land Cruiser crowd. |
So far the lowest quote I can find for someone to drive out here and do this is $425. Is that reasonable?

That doesn't sound terrible, or if you don't mind shipping your ECU out there is this service
