Default 40 amp Main relay fuse

Is 40 amp Main relay fuse that controls headlamp and starter system screwed in from bottom? I can't remove it. It is # 9 fuse slot. Car is 2000 Lexus ES300.

I've never removed one but I think the bolts are on each side of the fuse. From what I've read a pain to get out.

On the 2002 yes, the two big fuses are 10mm bolts from the bottom of the fusebox. Very annoying. Probably the same on prior generation. Getting the fuse box out is not hard, just annoying.

Thanks. The reason I asked is because I am trying to pare down why no power at all in vehicle. Battery tests good, as does the alternator and related devices. No way to start car...no dashboard lights, no lights, no nothing. Security light not blinking while car just sits there! When a friend tried jump starting my car today...dashboard lights came on during the jump, and security blinking light returned. but car would not turn over. Just clickity click click. After jump car completely dead again with NO POWER and security light stopped blinking. Any idea what could be causing this?

Is the battery holding a proper charge? What's the condition of the terminals. If the 40 amp fuse is blown almost nothing on the car will work.

Right, it doesn’t sound like that’s the problem from what you added. You have to actively blow that fuse by mishandling wires/cables. Also, IIRC, you can see the fuse very plainly from the top so you can tell if it’s been blown before you take the box off; no need to speculate.

I see you are in Masschusetts. Check the terminals like he said, then run down the cables and check the terminus of each. The ground strap may be corroded enough to cause this, and it may look fine at first glance so remove it and clean it. I had this happen to a car in New England after enough years.

Today, I managed to remove the 40 amp Main relay fuse. It tested 'good'. Battery terminals look clean, tight and good. Battery tests at 12.6 volts. My son checked the ground strap and checked out okay. At this point I am wondering if the anti-theft system has locked me out of my car! No power at all going into vehicle. When I try to start it...nothing, not even a click!

Did you try starting it in Neutral instead of Park?

The battery needs to be load tested, a voltage reading is not an indication of the battery's cranking power. Also, remove the cables at the battery and clean both the posts and clamps.

Yes, I have tried to start it in neutral and park. No go. Had to engage the shift release switch to try it in neutral.

Finally! Managed to get power going full steam ahead to vehicle! My Lexus started right up and now purring like a kitten! Thanks HomerJay and all! Believe I was looking for complex issues, when the solution was so simple. Though I cleaned the terminals and posts, I guess I did not do it efficiently enough. Did it again, only this time quite thoroughly. Scraped off all rust and all. Remember everyone, there was no power at all going from battery to vehicle components and relays. Dirty terminals and connections will do it. I am one happy camper now. Will attach what battery connections looked like before the thorough cleaning.

Posted a picture of the terminals before thorough cleaning, but now it isn't here and I cannot find it.
