Sunroof Won’t Close
I just bought this car a few days ago used from a private owner, it’s a lexus es300. The car is in great shape and the battery had been replaced so I know it’s not that. Yesterday on my way to work I started my car and my sunroof automatically opened and when I got to work it wouldn’t shut, the buttons wouldn’t close it or anything, I had my friend come by and he got it to close but when I was on my way home it opened again. It was starting to rain so I parked it in the garage and it still would not close. I held in the close slide button and pressed it and nothing happened, after turning the car on and off again and just waiting finally it closed, the tilt button and the slide buttons were all working the day before but I’m not sure if this had been a previous issue with the owner or not as I just bought it. Earlier that day the tilt and slide were working but when I got it home I did try the tilt and it just opened the sunroof. After I closed to sunroof I just cut the motor off so that it wouldn’t open in case it rains because I park outside, if anyone could help me figure out how to fix it and make it to where it will open and close that would be great.

Couple answers depending on the symptoms:
1) Does the roof move but does not automatically travel to fully open or close?
Common after a battery disconnect, re-initialize by holding the switch all the
way closed and then all the way open twice. Same technique for each of the
windows if they do not auto open and close.
2) Does the roof not move easily even when you hold the switch?
Check the tracks for debris, the anti-jam feature will sense resistance
and stall the movement.

The roof didn’t seen to have trouble opening and closing at first it didn’t stop halfway or anything it would fully close with no problem, when I pressed the switch to close it even holding the switch in nothing would happen it wouldn’t even budge. The sunroof did eventually close but I had to wait a long time before trying again, and it seemed like the tilt button made it completely open, I ended up cutting the motor so that the roof wouldn’t open when my car automatically started but I want to be able to fix it
