2001 ES300 Engine Removal

Hey everyone,

So I plan to pull my motor/transmission out mainly to replace the transmission since it is shot now (car has 220,XXX miles). I was able to pick up the car for ~500 and got a used transmission with ~150,XXX miles on it that i will be dropping in. I will be pulling everything out in order to replace Timing Belt, Water Pump, oil pan gasket, etc.
I've gotten mostly everything apart to pull out except for the engine harness. I'm debating on what how to take the engine harness apart, from the intake manifold or from inside the ECM and pull through the rubber grommet hole in the fire wall.
If anyone has done an engine removal before what and how have you all done it. TIA!

Remove on the ECM side and pull through the firewall. It's not a bad idea to tape the connectors to protect them.

You may have already figured this out, but the radiator, shroud, and core support come out in like 5 minutes and make it a LOT easier to move around. I have also (not on a lexus) removed the painted plastic, foam, and actual metal bumper. Just be careful of the air bags and make sure the car is supported at 4 secure, symmetrical jack points so nothing "shifts"

Just out of curiosity, would it have worked (better) to have supported the engine and dropped the subframe and swap trannys that way?

Let us know how your first drive goes!
