As I understand, any different ecm would need to be reprogrammed to work in your car. Some people have reported good success sending their ecm to a repair service. I don't have any first hand experience so hopefully someone else can give you some advice.

What would need to be reprogrammed in the ecm? Keys?

I'm no expert but yes, the keys. See this link https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es-...ent-es300.html Another possibility is to get your ECM repaired.

So I opened the ECM hoping it would look similar to the thread :
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...capacitor.html

After opening it up, I noticed it looks nothing similar, no QAS Capacitors.
I guess there's nothing I can solder-fix myself.
I couldnt find any burn marks or anything peculiar either.

So I am looking around for the same part number for this ECM: 89666-33210.
I checked:
https://www.mylparts.com/oem-parts/l...bC12Ni1nYXM%3D

and its telling me that my car should have the ECM with the part number: 89661-0W122.

Have you considered having your ECM repaired? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lexus-ES300...-/222521525535

I was about to do that. I had a bad experience with repairs before for my Pathfinder, but I will give this a try now.

I called a few companies that do repair, and turn around time was 1-2 weeks. Got a replacement ecm faster. I'm just going to reprogram the keys and see if the ecm was bad in the first place.

The car runs now, except for the shifting issue.
Recently I got 3 more codes emissions related,

P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Malfunction

I checked the hoses around the airbox because I removed that last week. But will need to remove it to see if any hoses below got unconnected.
The same time the steering wheel got hard to turn, there is fluid in the reservoir for power steering. Could the ACV valve have gone bad?

I had the same problem on my es300. Was just the alternator failing. Which would make sense if your lights were dimming and car only ran for 20 minutes after a battery charge. Alternator isn't charging your battery, and too low of a voltage output for your solenoids to work properly. Change your alternator. I had the best trans shop in Houston tx check my car and were like "alternator" after $60 inspection. Dm me your number and I'll explain everything lol

It seems weird as there are many problems that are able to cause this issue, for me it seemed to be the fuel filter as it was blocking fuel flow. After taking off the old one and using air to blow out the debris (a lot of black fuel came out).

I had already changed the alternator I believe 1-2 years ago.

I have tested the alternator battery system, and it showed a low battery cranking amps. I'm now getting a line pressure solenoid error.

Perhaps a clogged filter or something that's lessening the pressure in the trans lines?

I had not considered the filter being the culprit. Before this I had the SL1 and SL2 codes pop up.

I ordered a replacement ecm a few weeks ago, working on the key immobilizer chip and then will see if that fixes my issue. The wiring from ECM to the solenoid checked out and so did the resistances of the solenoids.

I own a 2001 Lexus ES300 and also have transmission issues. I dropped my car off at a transmission place yesterday and will give updates on the diagnosis. The main problem I have is once I am driving on the highway and have to slow down to a stop, my car will not shift into overdrive after I try to accelerate to highway speeds again. I have to pull over and turn the car off and on once to get it to shift into OD again. Anyone have any experience with this?

Are your CEL or Trac warning lights on?

My CEL light and Traction light are both on. The codes I have for that is Knock Sensor Circuit Fault 1, P0330 Knock Sensor Circuit Fault 2, and then two EVAP codes P0440 and P0446. For my transmission, the shop I took it to said it was a internal malfunction with the torque converter and it was not staying locked in. Not really sure what I should do now because it will cost at least $2000.
