Help!! Cluster Replacement Instructions
Hi,
I am trying to replace a cluster on my 93 ES300. Does anyone have a step by step procedure for that replacement. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, ALexV |
What exactly is wrong with your cluster? Is it the backlighting or the needles? My guess would be either, but from all the past discussions on this forum, the ES needles cannot be replaced or repaired on your own. You'd have to go to the dealership to do that, unfortunately, or like most other ES owners, you can try to live with the dying needles :(
For the backlighting problem, it's possible to replace the light bulbs on your own. However, I suggest trying the "whacking" method first, where you simply hit with the palm of your hand the black plastic area located between the steering wheel and the clear cluster cover. If successful, you'll see the lights turn on almost immediately. You might need to do it a few times to see if there's any change. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to dissect the gauge cluster. First, you need to remove the 2 top screws that are located under small plastic covers (use a flathead to open them), and take the black frame out. Then unscrew the 6 screws (4 on top, 2 on bottom) that are holding the actual cluster. After that, you will be able to move the whole cluster a little bit. Do not unplug anything in the back side. Then the plastic cover has 5 or 6 clips in the bottom and under which you need to remove. Now you should be able to pull out the cluster and gain access to the backlighting bulbs. Hope this info helps. |
