Aftermarket stereo install - antenna whine
Good afternoon all,
I recently installed a low end aftermarket stereo into my old girl - 1998 ES300 - and used a metra wiring harness for the stereo / amp connection. That part went great, no issues at all. I had bought one of these models before and put it in a 2005 Dodge Neon which has since been sold on, and there was nary a problem with it. So I went back to it when I wanted one for this car.
The whine I'm hearing is coming from the antenna connection. The stock antenna is plugged directly into the new stereo. I've looked for antenna adapters but I think I need some help with choosing the right one. If anyone has any history with this I'd appreciate some help.

Before I isolated the antenna whine, I bought one of these in the hopes I would get rid of the noise. Nope

I think I have an option to get a hidden antenna and just mount it, but for the life of me I don't understand why I can't find a "plug your old antenna into this and then the other end put into the stereo"
Scosche Universal Fit antenna adapter doesn't work, I bought it just now and none fit my car antenna plug
Please help if you can, thanks
John

That's about what I expect out of a $34 dollar stereo, although more expensive units sometimes have alternator whine. Maybe try a better filter? An antenna adapter doesn't do anything expect adapt to different plug types that won't help you.

Hmm well I was hoping the actual fit of the antenna would be the cause of the whine. When I unplug the antenna entirely but leave amp plugged in, Bluetooth music is crystal clear. It’s only when the antenna is plugged in
ahh well

Do you care about over the air signals? I never use them anymore.

With all due respect, yes I do care about the signal.
does anyone have a possible solution to my antenna issue? Would buying a hidden antenna work? Or, as Lexus alluded to, would all the money spent to get an inexpensive radio to work be better served by just buying a better radio?
thanks in advance.

For anyone else who has this problem, this worked like a charm. Noise all gone.
Was not an antenna adapter i was looking for, which was part of my problem. A rather big part.

Thanks for the update. I like one of the reviews on Amazon person was disappointed it didn't filter out overhead power line noise. Well no that's not what the filter is for.
