Default car bucking/jerking on the highway

Hello,

My car (2005 ES330) seems to be having some trouble driving smoothly, mostly when it's driven at higher speeds on the highway (60+ miles). It occasionally bucks/jerks/lunges from time to time (not severely however) and while it doesn't seem to be a serious issue, it can be a bit unsettling...seeking to get this resolved.

I've changed the timing belt, replaced some intake hoses, changed the spark plugs, pcv valve, cleaned the throttle body and the problem still persists (although to a lesser extent after the replacements). It runs well on idle, not much shaking or variation in the rpm. Currently have no codes. What else would cause the bucking/jerking on the highway? From what I've read it could be the intake gaskets, knock sensor, fuel filter, even the computer program in relation to the transmission. Any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Does this happen during on-off-on throttle?

Another possibility is a partially clogged Cat converter, or another exhaust system component.

The bucking usually happens slightly after throttling. It's almost as if it has a hard time fully accelerating after the pedal is pushed. Perhaps air is being leaked somewhere, but all of the hoses are intact. Once again, the engine idles great, just has noticeable issues at higher speeds.

If this only happens for a second during on-off throttle, then it is the typical problem on the ES330. Read this forum. There has been many posts about this.

Would there be a noise with bad car converter? Is there a way to determine if a cat converter is bad? Versus if it is the knock sensor.

I heard something about a transmission related problems with these models, or a computer programming issues. Were they ever able to find a fix for this issue?

There was a guy very recently that installed a Chinese throttle controller to solve the DBW/transmission "issues." Was much cheaper than the big names, and I bet it did the same thing, might be worth checking out (I don't have a DBW Toyota so I couldn't tell you).
