2002 ES300 clearance lights

1 Attachment(s)
I just got a 2002 ES300. I recently noticed that the headlight assemblies actually have four bulbs (blinker, bright, headlamp, and clearance). I'd never noticed the lamp that's the farthest out (with respect to the center of the car). I looked at the headlight assembly diagram, and there it is called a "clearance" light. Sorry if this is a simple question, but does anyone know when these come on? I tried all the headlight settings I know and they don't come on. The burnt bulb indicator on the dash isn't on either, so I'm not sure they're out. What do these lamps do? I've included the diagram and my own photo.

I'm guessing but they are probably come on with one click of the switch. Front lamps are not detected by the failure warning light in the dash.

Just a parking light, yeah? I've got those in my Insights and they're called that in the literature.

Dunno if your 4ES is the same, but on the 3ES and before (plus contemporary Camrys), the bulb-out indicator is only for taillamps. In any case, if the other one is working, turn on parking lights and see.

Found it

Ah, I wasn't aware that the indicator doesn't turn on for headlights; I've not had a front light (aside from
these ones) go out yet. I found out that you can get to them the same way you get to the indicator lights: just rotate the wheel outward, pop open the wheel well cover, follow the body of the car up to the headlight assembly, and find the clearance light. It runs whenever the orange indicator lights do. I pulled the bulbs out and they were burnt. It seems as if they were the original bulbs in this too, as they were from the same manufacturer as the headlight assembly. Autozone has them listed under parking lights. Thanks for the help guys!

That bulb lamp over there is the worst to replaced, almost no access. Lexus have a bad engineering design headlights, very difficult to replace bulbs. A regular Buick is very easy, you can replaced all lamps in just 10 minutes, both sides.

That's an amber parking light. Should turn on with the parking lights switch. Might be burnt.
