Replacing HID low beam bulb

Just wanted to describe my experience replacing an HID low beam bulb on my 2004 Lexus ES330. I did some research and found out that some people have been quoted over $500 at a Lexus dealership for this service.

I went to Autozone and bought the Xenon HID bulb for $99- Found the price outrageous but there were no cheaper options- Since it was on the driver's side, it was a pain to get to it, I did not have the proper tools to finish the job so I hired a local mechanic to install it, gave him $50 bucks- a 20 minute job for a grand total of $149.00

I am still a bit upset for not being able to do it myself but charging over $500 for this type of service is outrageous in my opinion :)

Glad you got that taken care of but yeah, AZ will rape you on the price of an HID bulb. Philips D2R are $40/ea on Amazon:

Thanks! I did not know there were cheaper options! I watched a video on Youtube of a guy replacing the HID on an ES300 and he bought the same one I bought at Autozone for $99. I will order them from Amazon next time!

Just about all local stores will be more expensive than online retailers. The plus side is, if you need something immediately, you can get it, just costs more. But there are a lot more optioons (and cheaper) online.

If I were you, i'd just invest in a little socket set so you can change easy stuff yourself. $500 to replace bulbs from the stealership?? i could buy a new bumper for that much. lol
$50 in labor is still not worth it to me, since i can replace my low beam, high beam, and fog light bulbs in minutes.

+1 on buying bulbs online rather than at your local auto stores. I bought my Philips D2R bulbs on ebay couple years ago for about $50 and they still work good since the day I first got it.
