2003 ES300 gives P0345 code bank #2
Any idea where the camshaft position sensor is and how much trouble it is to get to? I have checked the battery and car starts ok. Battery voltage drops to 10.5 volts only for seconds when starting 12.3 before starting and 14 volts after starting. 3 code lights dont remember other 2 but one is check engine symbol. After doing reset on code it takes only seconds to return when car is started. thanks John

lexus 2003 es300 code P0345
any experience with this problem personally? Wonder if sensor VVT is bank #2 and if it is internal and a pain to get to? I see their are two sensors but bank 2 comes up on the code reader.

Bank 2 is the front bank (cyl #'s 2, 4, 6). The sensor is right there when you look at it, coming off the front of the head (where front is the front of the car) on the driver's side

thanks a bunch I am not very familiar with exactly what it looks like. Do you have to remove that top engine cover where the engine oil fill cap is? Is it close to where that is underneath with wires going to it? Do you know if it is easily removable and should you get one at napa for around 133.00 or maybe buy a lexus part for higher? thanks again john

Hey did you get yours figured out? I'm throwing P0345 and replaced the sensor and verified the battery was good. Still throwing the code.

No not exactly. did you use an OEM part? I didn't and noticed that it didn't have the notches when I connected the wire harness. The code clears then come right back on. I've done a few other service jobs, VVT's and filters, oem air filter (box wouldn't close), PCV replaced. I also have a small leak at the valve cover and don't know if this is related. Is yours fixed?

My 2002 has 2 VVT's and filters. These are different then the air and oil filters. the VVT's have many names and I found it confusing until I started looking at pictures. look up vvt valve cleaning on google. For an older car these need to be cleaned or replaced and have the filters cleaned or replaced. I would pull these before removing the valve cover. If the engine is sludge filled it will show on these parts. here's a pic of 1 set there is another to the right of this picture.

Hello,
It is a good idea to check the solenoid and the filter, if they are dirty, you may have to take the valve cover off. A failing VVT solenoid can also cause this issue, though you can test it by simply attaching 12V to it.
Are you sure that your old sensor is dead? You can test it by either measuring the resistance, or pulling it across metal surface with the AC voltage meter hooked to it. Also check the wiring that goes to the sensor, older posts with diagram and test procedure can be found here and here.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
