Default 99 ES 300 P0300 P0302 P0303 Ignition Coils.

Multiple misfires, bad coil pack on front plug (OK) and middle back (BOO).

Having been in here last year for knock sensors, and subsequent spark plug renewal, bummed that I had to go back in.

However, it is possible to just loosen the intake plenum to get to the back plugs and coils. Quick expository explanation:

Remove plastic top cover, intake air filter box, plastic MAF box up to the dual air hoses.

Loosen metal rail (blue and brown connectors) held on by 2 10mm nuts.

Remove 14mm bolt on back of plenum, up by firewall. This attaches to an engine hoist hook(?) and is a pain to get to. Obscured
by an AC or PS hose, which is held in by a 10mm nut. Remove the 10mm nut first, allowing you to move the hose and gain access to 14mm bolt. This is tight.

Remove 2 14mm nuts and 2 14 hex nuts holding on the plenum.

There is a 12m bolt holding the back of the plenum bracket assembly, remove that bolt.

You can now pull up and over on the plenum and move it just enough to access the back ignition coils. Tight, but doable!

Swap out your ignition coils. Move the plenum back into place and now replace that PITA 14mm nut on the back of the plenum. You can rock the plenum to guide the bolt in. I used a very small Titan 1/4 drive socket wrench and 14mm socket to tighten.Smaller is better here; doesn't have to be that tight, and not much room back there.

Replace 14mm bolts and 14mm hex nuts for the plenum. Tighten those and then the 12mm bolt on the back of the plenum bracket assembly. Attach the metal rail, and then button up the air boxes and MAF box. I was happy to put everything back together in about 20 minutes, taking my time.

Car fired right up and no codes thrown. I am happy with Amazon-provided Denso ignition coils, super fast shipping.
