Default Replacing Front Valve Cover Gasket Only?

Is it okay to only replace the front valve cover gasket or is it bad to not do both at the same time? I'm pretty positive I have a slight leak (no engine light) with the front one, it doesn't even effect the oil level really but I can sometimes smell it at a stoplight. The reason I ask is because I'm only moderately skilled when it comes to cars (struggled on my coolant thermostat), I've read the instructions for doing the front and the rear gaskets and it looks like it would be out of my league. But the Front seems easier to get to and work on.

Nothing wrong with only replacing the LH (front) bank gasket.

no issue with that, but it would pay to check the rear one as well, if it isn't leaking there's not a need to a turn spanners on it.
