High beam bulb
So, I'm planning to replace my high beam 9005 bulbs with 100w ones on my 2001 ES300. Country roads get dark and stock high beams don't seem to be much help. They look to be original so probably has yellowed more through time. Question, I know Drls use high beams at low voltage, any problems with higher wattage bulbs? Also, I don't plan on keeping the highs on for very long at a time due to oncoming traffic. Any issues with the harness for short period of use? Thanks!

May not even be brighter depending on how wore out the wiring harness is or how good it is drawing power. Could always install a relay to draw power from the battery.
If you are just wanting brighter highs (not the lows), stick a 55w or 75w HID kit in the housing with a relay. The ballasts could burn out quicker with switching off and on frequently but it is what it is. I would just never run any higher wattage on old wires. |
I've heard of higher wattage bulbs melting harnesses. I don't think the risk is worth minimal increase in lighting.

Thanks for the input! I'll stick with the stock wattage!

May be cleaning/polishing the headlight lens would help. One option is samsclub does it for $29.99 with 5yr warranty
