98 es300 wiper screeching
Folks,
Anyone else experiencing this annoying screeching noise from windshield wipers, especially when the rain is not heavy? It has been going on for sometime. Tried changing the wipers and it would be quiet for few weeks but then comes back. So I think something else is going on. On the RX forum, someone talked about lubricating the bushing around the shaft that the wiper arm rotates around (He had to yank off the big plastic piece that covers the assembly at the base of the passenger wiper arm and then put some oil around the shaft bushing)
Anyone dealt with this on ES, any tips
Thanks

I've had good luck with OEM refills, or you could replace the whole blade depending on the condition.

If you already changed the wipers, than the next most common cause is a dirty window.
Clean it well using something like Windex together with Mr. Clean magic eraser. Use the magic eraser first.

Try cleaning your wiper blades with denatured alcohol. Or better yet buy these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002Z9QWQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . (PIAA Silicone wipers. They are fantastic.) 22 inch for drivers. 18 inch for passenger.

You have to isolate where the noise is coming from. Is it from the wiper blades? Or from the motor? Or from the axis/bushing where the arms are rotating at?
My previous and current Lexus ES don't have this issue.

tomf is right. Dentures alcohol will cure speaking/ dirty wipers. I went cheap at Walmart for a dollar I purchased 90% isopropyl alcohol from the pharmacy area and they are supple and quiet. I perform this routinely now in my maintenance schedule.

If you end up replacing your wipers I recommend these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TG7I0I/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have had them since Feburary 2014 and they are still working well. They were making a small squeaky noise about 5 months ago, i just wiped the rubber part down on the wiper blades and they were good to go.
Edit:
Didn't see the post above me recommending other wiper blades. If you are looking for cheaper alternative then use the ones I posted.

I currently use Rain-X Latitude and they work BEAUTIFULLY, have been for a little more than half a year.

DO NOT USE DENATURED ALCOHOL!! It will dry out the rubber and make them brittle. Just using a water soaked rag to take off all the grunge on them will make them work almost like new. When I was younger, you could get a device you ran along the blade edge to take off the grunge and square off the blade edge - the blade edge needs to be square to wipe clean. I can't find anything like it, probably killed off by the blade manufacturers!! When it gets rounded, time for new blades.
