My left blinker is blinking twice as fast as normal. Anybody know what that means? Is there a bulb out maybe?

Yep, that's the usual sign that the turn signal bulb is burnt out.

Front or back? Are they wasy to replace? 1157 Bulb?

Whichever bulb is affected (front or back) should be taken care of. Let's see, for your '99 ES, the part # for the front turn signal is 1157A, and the rear turn signal is 7440. The front one is very easy to replace. Just pop the hood, locate the grayish plastic circular cover behind the headlight, grab and turn in one direction, and pull out the 1157A bulb. (The pictures below are for the '96 ES, but the bulb type is the same as the '99).





The rear one is a little difficult to replace because you need to open up the trunk carpet lining (held on by either plastic screws or pegs) to get to the tailight assembly. After you pull down the lining, you'll see several long and short 10mm bolts, and I believe you only need to remove 3 bolts from each tailight assembly (I don't know which 3 though). After that, you should be able to pull the tailight away from the car, and from there you'll have access to the tailight bulbs. That's the best I can explain, but I'm sure there's a search in the ES forums detailing more info in removing the tailight assembly.

thanks that helps. i just need to figure out which bulb. the front and back bulbs both work just blink fast. is it possible the bulb is malfunction and not out because they are working??? Or is something else going on?

Yep it's usually always one of the bulbs. In a worse case scenario, it would be a grounded wire somewhere.

I had that problem before.... try check the fuse..... that works for me.....

i also had the problem on my sister's 97 es 300 where the little connectors inside the socket were no making a good connection and causing the bulb to blink twice as fast. So i used small pliers to pull the connectors up a little and that solved the problem.

i have the same problem, except with the right side. i went to the dealer a while back because when i replaced the bulb, the light still blinked twice as fast. they said the contacts were corroded and weren't making a solid connections. they also said to fix the problem, i need to buy a WHOLE NEW ASSEMBLY, costing at least $600. i'm thinking about looking at the contacts myself and seeing if i can scrap away and clean the contacts. does anyone know how i might go about doing this? also, which contacts might they be referring to?

gawd that is insane $600. It won't stop raining here so I can't check mine but for the contacts you can try cleaning them with some 1000 grit sandpaper or carburator or wd40. it will help remove any corrosion.

scary part is how are they getting corroded. must be leaking somewhere.

ya, well it's an old car, a '92. i doubt it's severe corrosion. heh, might be that the taillight blinker is goin out. i'll study it more when i have the time. school is almost out, so i'll fix it up when i have the free time. thanx for the suggestion

this has happened to me a couple times before....first time got it fixed at the dealership and the second time, i let it run for a couple weeks and it fixed itself, it was pretty weird but works for me!

Sounds like loose wiring somewhere that knocked itself back into contact.
