Cool Keys & Remotes

I see many keys & remotes on eBay.
Which one would be the one to get for my 1998 ES300?

Thanks,

Edwin

I just got the flip out "switchblade" syle ones from 1010keys on ebay. I am pleased with the results and a pair of keys cut and shipped for $35 seemed good to me. I chose the flip key because I thought it would be more comfortable in my pocket and the way it operates it seems less prone to breakage than the standard key. My only gripe is its hard to get a keyring on it without bending the ring permanently. Other than that they are quick and the customer service is good. They can use photos and you can also give them the key code off of the emergency key.

They also have the stock syle keys, 2 for $18 if I recall. I figured I would try the flip even though it cost more and I'm glad I did, I don't get stabbed in the leg anymore.

Just went through this on my 99, you'll need the separate 3 button remote, like this one on eBay.

And key blanks like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Uncut-Repl...-/351556917276

I found a local locksmith who copied the one key I had, then followed the programming directions to add the keys and fobs, it's two separate procedures. As long as you have a master key, it's not difficult to add additional keys and fobs.

Just out of curiosity, how much did the locksmith charge to cut this type of key?

Look for the FCC ID code on the back of your original remote, just search ebay for them.

Follow the video by speedkar9 to program it, for the key, if you have immobilizer on your 98 then you need a key with the compatible chip, ebay should have those.

I've programmed my new valet key with the foot dance method, pressing gas and brake method, speedkar9 also has a video for it, though I did it without the video.

I have the 00-01 integrated key and remote which I prefer, someone mentioned they were going to replace their key and fob with this, but never seen if he got it done.

35 dollars, using my working master key. He didn't do the programming, just the cut.

When I bought the car only one key was given to me with no remote.
Will it still be ok just to purchase this remote:http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-LEXUS-ES300-KEYLESS-ENTRY-REMOTE-CLICKER-RKE-KEY-FOB-HYQ1512P-TRANSMITTER-/231736098341?rmvSB=true&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F1%252F711-53200-19255-0%252F1%253Ftype%253D3%2526campId%253D5336108637%2526toolId%253D10001%2526customId%253Diglb6vxjc5000azq00004%2526mpre%253Dhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.ebay.com%25252Fitm%25252FOEM-LEXUS-ES300-KEYLESS-ENTRY-REMOTE-CLICKER-RKE-KEY-FOB-HYQ1512P-TRANSMITTER-%25252F231736098341%2526srcrot%253D711-53200-19255-0%2526rvr_id%253D923789461904&ul_noapp=true

that looks fine, just follow the online instructions to program it, or better yet go watch speedkar9's video.

I don't think that remote will work with your car. You might need the remote that actually comes embedded with the key.

I got a few of those types of remotes from the junkyard (from Solara and Camry) and tried to program it on my friend's ES300. It would go into programming mode but not accept the remote. The remotes worked fine on my Solara however.

I believe the ES300 key and remote programming procedure is the same as the GS300:

I will respectfully disagree. I was sold a key/fob combo, that would not work or program with my 99, so I can imagine an 98 will either. 98 & 99 will require a separate key/fob, and the one pictured should work just fine with a 98.

That's what I thought too, the 97-99 cars came with separate key and fob where's the 00-01 had the key and fob in one like the one for the GS.

As far as know, the blade on the 00-01 is referred to as the "Long Blade" as the later years got the shorter key.

I bought a new keyfob housing with the blade attached from mylparts.com, they were nice enough to cut it for me as well, the remote portion was fine so I just transferred it into the new housing along with a new battery!

Someone posted that they wanted to try the 00-01 key combo on a 97-99 not sure how far he got with it.

I tried it, it didn't work. As nice as it would be to have the combination key/remote, not possible on the pre-00, as you have. I bought a 00+ remote online from a seller whose guide showed it was compatible, but after multiple attempts at programming the fob, it was pretty evident it was not going to work. Same procedure with the separate fob, programmed on the first try.

Oh man that sucks, but now it's confirmed it won't work so 97-99 owners should stick with the separate key and fob.
