So here's the skinny. No Transmission response. Engine Starts up, loud whine coming from engine bay, can't pin point it. Noise goes away after engine warms up. If I disconnect the battery (remove negative terminal) and reconnect, I have a fully functional transmission. After some time, 1-5 minutes, no transmission.

Repeat the battery disconnect/reconnect. I have a transmission again. Shifts normally. Fluid is full, color is ok. No evidence of metal flakes. A few minutes later, no transmission. It does this whether I'm driving or sitting in the driveway.

Dealer states needs a new transmission. (surprise) Need your help, folks. I'm open to real solutions. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am not sure of how the toyota ones work yet but did do some things on my honda. Pressure switches and solenoid screens was an easy starting point. If you have torque converter issues then trans replacement is an option to consider.

Everything works again once I disconnect and reconnect the battery. Could the whining noise be the transmission pump? Need your help folks. I'll keep the solenoid screens and pressure switches in mind when I pull the pan. Thanks in advance.

Which gear is the whine coming from, 1-2, 2-3, etc? Any slippage? If there is no slip in any yet then some whine is normal. Replacing a pressure switch will prolong the trans. It might be pressure related. Hopefully torque converter is good, whine will be pretty much constant while in that same gear. Change out the fluid to Maxlife or Amsoil.

No slippage. Whine is at idle. disappears after warm-up. K, I'll check it all out. So the mystery still is why does it run normal and quit, but I can reset it again, only to quit soon after?

It sounds like an electrical problem more than anything else; and I don't know these enough to speculate. But a basic questions: is the unit properly filled?

Plenty of fluid. i just want to make sure I cover all the possibilities before I start tearing into the transmission.
