how much do you spend on paint?
i just ordered a spoiler (unpainted) from spoilerdepot.com for my 98 es300 and it cost $150 including shipping. im having it installed and painted, as well as have the top pieces on the front and rear bumper painted, at a body shop. the pearl white paint for that thing is 3 layers and expensive! i was charged $300 for paint and installation which i think is very reasonable.

from all the time i spend in body shops it usually costs 200 a full bumper and 100-150 depending on the spoiler to paint
install about 30 minutes unless wireing for an led $20-50 these are all canadian
most cars do have a clear coat even without pearl
it is prime coat
base coat
then clear coat on top so about 500 canadian
about 350 usd for the whole thing
for small areas of the bumper
maybe 125 each
so maybe a little high but you get what you pay for
also i am unsure as to american shop prices even though they use the same manuals for estimating

recently my car was in the body shop. The minimum volume of Lexus paint available to the body shop was $250.00. Lexus paint is expensive. Now add the clear coat. I don't know if primer will be necessary other than to give the paint a base, the spoiler is fiberglass and not metal. Since you are having bumpers painted, you have to figure in the "flex" additive so that the paint doesn't crack on the flexible plastic.
I had a spoiler installed on my '02 ES. The spoiler was from the same place: spoilerdepot, however it came painted (dealer price, $450.00) and installation was $200. Grand total = $650 + 5% tax on the spoiler.
Now that I look back, I should have ordered the painted spoiler direct ($359.00) and mounted it myself.
Drilling four holes is the most work. It comes with all hardware, templates, and wiring. It wired right into the high mount brake light.
Given my recent bodyshop dealings (not out of my wallet), I think you got a hell of a deal.

PS, don't forget to post pics of the spoiler and bumper work.

do you mean lexus paint codes being expensive due to the scheme of pearls and mettalic?
not sure why someone would say ( not meaning you steve just the shop who did the work for you)
that their is a minimum to buy ,most if not all shops have a paint room to mix paints,
usually seikkens or another brand of paint maker i think dupont only other one i know is a custom paint shop called house of kolour ( could be more)
they are the ones who make crazy show car candies ,pearls and any other paint that maks you say wow but not on my car
lol

PPG paints very good, used to work for a shop that had the Deltron mixing system. Some pearls can get pricey, and for colors (at the time) the metallic burgundy used by some manufacturers was the most expensive.
