As we all know, that the Lexus gauges on the earlier models would flicker, go out and pretty much cease to function in the lighting aspect. My question is that if you were to replace (Ex. 95 ES300) with a cluster that is working perfectly but the mileage is different. Would the actual miles of the car show up? Or would the miles on the replacement cluster show? This may be a really dumb. But I was really curious.

hey baby lex.
actually i'm not sure myself...
but i would think it would show your own mileage, since the mileage should be embedded in one of the car's computers...
the odo number isn't in the cluster itself, i don't think...

mileage is in the cluster not the car
you can take the new needles and place them in the old cluster not too hard to open up if you want the actual mileage
also just about everywhere i know of it is illegal to repalce a cluster and sell the car without notification to the new owner of actual mileage

where'd you get that photo? they sell gauge clusters like that?

thanks -
matt

Yeah matt, they sell 'em on ebay, or you can pick them up at a junk yard.

j2tha0e 03-23-03 11:29 AM

...you need to get your speed reproged at lexus.

zexen 03-23-03 12:16 PM

if you swap needles, you'd have to get them reprogrammed, but if it's the entire cluster, i don't think a reprogramming is needed. is it?

Baby Lex 03-23-03 12:33 PM

So your saying if I purchase a used one that entirely works, swap it out. I can have the "actual" miles on my car reprogrammed to the replacement cluster?

zexen 03-23-03 09:30 PM

i don't think the mileage can be changed...
i was talking about the needles. because of the different car weights (options), it may cause the needles to not be the correct speed. so you'd have to take it in to get reprogrammed.
