Default P1349 Fix

For the P1349 I replaced the VVT Solenoid and the code is gone. I also cleaned the filters on both solenoids. It took me about 30 min working on the street with crappy hand tools. Its a very easy job, but actually pulling the solenoid out can be tricky, mine was stuck so I had to twist it back and forth a lot and tapped on the top and sides to break the seal of the o ring. I used a dorman part because it was only $40

it seems to be working fine. I will update as time goes on.

Others have done pretty in depth DIY so I would search for them if you want to know how to do the job, but let me know if you have any specific questions.

I'm interested to see how that Dorman part holds up. Not doubting the part, but our engines are very finicky when it comes to sensors (knock, vvt, etc) and if they are OEM or aftermarket. The latter always seeming to cause an issue.

The Dorman part got a lot of good reviews on Amazon. We will see how it holds up. I am a firm believer in using Lexus/Toyota factory parts... But when times are lean it gets hard to practice what you preach. The car has some rust on it that I didn't notice when I first bought it (lesson learned, don't buy a car when it's snowing, at night time), so I don't think I'm going to keep it forever. Which is a shame because it only has 133K, I was planning on doing the water pump / T-belt and driving it for another 90K.

I will report back on the Dorman part for sure.

Any updates on this?
I got code P1349 & P1130 and I guess I need a new solenoid?
Not sure.
My symptoms are, car stutters at idle and the car sounds like there is a hole in the muffler.
Car feels sluggish and has less power when moving.

I just replaced the fuel filter yesterday without any issues so I am not sure if this may be a factor.
Car drove fine yesterday and all day today but this issue started just tonight.

I wonder if it damages the muffler? I recently had mine replaced and now I'm getting the P1349 code and the same muffler noise you report.
