Default 99 ES 300 U140E interchange

I need to know if there is an interchange Tranny for U140E. I heard that the 02-03 Camry will work.

Do people not understand how google works nowadays?

Applications:

2002–2004 Camry (V6)
2001–2003 Highlander (V6)
1999-2003 Lexus ES 300

gear ratios: 1st 3.938, 2nd 2.194, 3rd 1.411, 4th 1.019, rev 3.141, final drive 2.814
As per wikipedia. Any other auto resource such as car-part would show the same interchange!

I found the same thing when I googled it, but didn't quite believe that the 2002 and 2003 ES's had the same 4 speed auto tranny as the model year's prior. I was under the impression it had a 5 auto speed transmission.

Correct, the 2002 & 2003 ES300 have a 5 speed u151e transmission which is not interchangeable with the u140e.

A U140E by any other name... I think the only difference between the Camry and ES is the final drive and 1st gear ratio. This may cause issues with the ABS and TC systems tho. So I would say not to interchange. I just finished posting a video on here for someone showing how easy it is to rebuild one tho. In Japan, average citizens can rebuild them on their kitchen tables. This video is the A541E, but the two are similar.

don't mean to bump/quote an old thread but can a u151e be swapped into a 3es? with swapping necessary harness/trans ecu (or whatever needed to complete swap)?

Swapping in the U151E would require extensive work not even close to being practical.

So to clear the air, what transmission from other Toyotas is compatible with the 99 ES300 transmission? Meaning a direct swap?
Or just stick with the automatic transmission from a 99 to 01 ES300?

I would say the 97+ Camry and Solara (that generation) would probably be the only ones that are direct swap/fit.

Note that 97+ camry v6 uses A540 transmission, wheras 99 ES300 uses U140. So may not be direct swap/fit

Some 99 es300's use the A541 (edit)
