Carbon Wrapped my interior trims myself !

I happend to be surfing eBay and I found a 3ft x 4ft roll of carbon fiber vinyl for $15.
I decided i'd give it a go and it turned out better than I expected.

I was also getting sick of those old scratched wood trim panels, so this was my attempt at making it more modern !

Awesome. And a great idea for a side business too.

Suggestion on that worn out shift handle. Remove it, take it to Home Depot, and have them color match for a sample size bottle of their best interior flat latex paint. Sand the rought top of the handle and then brush paint the entire knob. Guarantee it will look much better than what is now is and it will cost less than $8 bucks. I've touched up my LS430 and it works like a charm. What have you got to lose?

ok, that seals it I'm doing that this week.

i really like it..you should also do same for A B and C pillars. to give that contrast look. i did my but with a spray black paint. and i like it

AntzCro 09-15-14 05:26 PM

I was thinking about doing the pillars. I definitely have more than enough carbon vinyl to do it so when I have the time I might just tape some on there to see how it looks before I apply it !

It's pretty easy to install too !

I would be very keen to see that photo (of the pillars wrapped), so I can work out if I'd be interested in doing it too.

Looks good. You might need a few more places wrapped to give it enough contrast throughout the cabin, perhaps around the radio and HVAC?

Reminds me of when I wrapped my Gen 5 Camry I used to have:

I'll get on it later today ! I just have to figure out how to remove them :P

bumping a 2yr old thread! (i came across this thread after doing my ES)

I just finished wrapping all the interior panels of my ES with carbon fiber wrap. Pretty much the same panels as the OP but I also wrapped the piece between the ash tray and climate control's. I sprayed a light coat of semi gloss clear coat and looks good. I also wrapped the exterior B pillar as well. I think this makes it look a little bit more sportier than the wood grain (since the ES has a slight "sporty" look to it). Now I just have to either change out the shift knob or paint it black. I'm also trying to do a black & tan interior combo, I might have to do what Jay Clapp mentioned.

AntzCro 08-29-16 07:15 AM

I've just moved on from my ES to a 2008 IS250 and I was thinking about wrapping the interior in CF but I think i'll prefer to leave it stock for now :D
It's a very fiddly job and over time it does tend to peel off and have issues with heat/cold :(

mugencivic 08-29-16 07:24 AM

Not much cold where I'm at but there is heat. How long would you say it lasts before it starts peeling?

mmatheny 08-29-16 02:04 PM

Mugencivic - Pictures??

AntzCro 08-30-16 03:00 AM

Lasted me about 2 years before it started peeling. However, keep in mind that the more time you take to prep and install the longer it will last. I just did the bar minimum. Ideally, you'd want about 1/2" to 1" inch of wrap that goes around the underside. This will make it last way longer.

I've experimented with a few wraps on my car interiors.

Here's what 4D gloss carbon fiber looks like in my Solara:

Here's the blue metallic trim, which I still have now:

And on the ES330 I wrapped the entire dashboard with a leather textured vinyl because I hated the dull brown dash top:
