Stupid question but what kind does everyone use? Any advantage to having one versus a front plate by itself?

Against the awful look of one, it's a state law in Ohio so I parted and drilled holes in my bumper. I don't have a bracket and I feel it looks a little better without one. Mine is just stuck on my bumper.

Lostape that's how I've always had it on my cars. I didn't know if brackets actually served a purpose, guess not. Seems like a waste of money
