Default Programming ES330 key question

Trying to make a second key for my 2004 ES330, but $250 is just stealership prices. Local locksmiths are no different in price. I've found the keys to be cheap off Ebay, but they need cutting and programming. I'm thinking of buying one of those keys and have Swell cut the blade for $20. Once the blade is cut I can follow

Is that all there is to programming the key? Is that what $200+ is for?

1. Driver's door open, all other doors closed, key removed from ignition switch. Within 5 seconds: Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch twice.

2. Within 40 seconds: Close and open driver's door twice. Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch.

3. Within 40 seconds: Close and open driver's door twice. Insert the key into the ignition switch and close the driver's door.

4. Switch ignition ON and OFF: A. Once to program a key remote transmitter code whilst retaining the original codes. B. Twice to program a key remote transmitter code whilst erasing the original codes. C. Three times to check how many key remote transmitters are currently registered. D. Five times to erase all registered codes.

5. Remove key from ignition switch. System should now lock and unlock vehicle once, twice or five times depending which mode has been selected. One to four times, slowly, to indicate number of key remote transmitters registered.

6. Within 40 seconds: Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 1.5 seconds. Within 3 seconds: Press any key remote transmitter button. System should now lock and unlock vehicle once to confirm registration or twice to indicate registration has failed.

7. Within 40 seconds: To program additional remotes repeat step 60 now on each additional remote you want programmed.

8. To exit programming mode open driver's door or insert key into ignition.

9. Step out of car with remote(s) in hand and test remote(s).

Don't buy an aftermarket key. Chances are it won't work.

Found someone who can make supply and program the key for $130. Not a bad price considering what I'm facing. Unless I find a better deal then that's who I'm going with. Anyone who lives in North Jersey can contact him. I swear every Locksmith near me wants nearly the same price as the dealer.

I hope I'm not violating any forum rules by doing this?

It's the keys that don't work. I've wasted a few bucks on aftermarkets and they will not program. OEM keys will. Also a lot of keys sold as being for the ES are a little longer that the factory key, this should be a tipoff. Sellers know that once you cut them, and you will before you try to program them, you won't be returning them. Buyer beware.

I just had a valet key made for $187.00. the one with buttons breaks too easily in my opinion. the last one, after cracking like they do, the guts fell out! spent hours looking for the chip, alas!

I actually got my key copied today for $50 and I wanna share my experience in how it was done. Mind you that this requires 1 working key. So if you lost your only working key you're SOL. Speaking of which, my only working key began to crumble apart, like so many of these Lexus keys. Still starts the car but needed a new shell.

I went and Ebay and bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/271755061313?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and began the hunt for someone to cut it. HomeDepot laughed at me, while Sears looked me funny. Town locksmith wants nearly $50 to cut the stupid key. Ace Hardware refuses due to policy which is the same with a lot of places that can cut it. But the Ace Hardware guy did direct me to another local shop that will cut it for $15 and they did. They are called Main Lock Shop in 762 Main Street, Hackensack, NJ.

So how did I make a copy? Well the guys there will cut for $15 and program the key for $15. Went on Ebay and bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/111586052260?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. It comes with key and programming instructions which don't work. If you go to RemotesRemotes.com the instructions for the remote do work, but not for starting the car. Starting the car and remotely locking unlocking and truck operation are two different things. Go to the link for instructions.

When I received the key I got it cut and programmed for $30 and the key itself was $20. Then I used the instructions to get the remote working for free. The benefit of this is that places that can make copies of the key usually don't include the remote. It's just a key. So not only is this cheaper but you get a very dealer looking key, without the Lexus logo. Which here's my tear for the missing Lexus logo on the back of the key.

The most important thing is to find a locksmith that isn't going to screw you over. Just get this key for $20.

Then go to a locksmith willing to work with you for a low price. Look hard cause they should be around somewhere.

Thanks for the location of the place who cut your key for $15. Lexus of Bridgewater charges $30 to cut the key, so I'll have to visit this place and have them cut an extra key I've had sitting around.

The first time the guy had no problem cutting the key. Second time a tall blonde haired guy couldn't do it. I told him it was done before with a short man, which he popped out of nowhere and did it for me. They're a little confused cause they never heard anyone doing this before. First time for everything.

Here's the good part: I purchased two pre-cut retractable blade shells off Ebay for $60 shipped. They both turn the ignition on, and unlock and lock the car. Then I found two good used original transmitters on Ebay for $60 shipped that need to be programmed. So far so good. Oh, and I have one barely decent original transmitter to work with here.

Lastly, if forum protocol allows it, and anyone wants to know the Ebay seller I used, then hit me up for it.
