2001 Trunk Issue
So my trunk latch is working properly, but the actual trunk has no support for lift. It just sits there unless I push it up. It will not stay up either... if I let go, it will fall down and slam shut from its weight. There must be something missing but I'm not exactly sure how these trunks are designed. Do they have struts? I replaced my hood struts but I can't seem to figure out how these trunks are supposed to open and stay open. I've had the car for about three weeks and would really like a properly functioning trunk. Any insight is appreciated.

Unlike the hood, there are no struts in the trunk to hold it up. It uses a single torsion bar to accomplish this.
If you look carefully, you'll see the torsion bar that I'm referring to. Once you see it, you will be able to figure out what's wrong.
If I remember correctly, and if there is nothing broken, it's adjustable in terms of how much torsion it exerts.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out what needs to be done. I have a feeling something has been removed from the trunk assembly. Can anyone send me pictures of their trunks? Specifically underneath the rear deck? I have two torsion bars and see a few spots where it looks like there were things removed (holes scratched from washers, screws, etc.)

As per Lexus2000's pictures above, it looks like your torsion bars are detached from their center supporting bracket, or that bracket is broken.
That bracket is visible in your first picture, and is located between the seatbelt retracting mechanism and the rear sub-woofer speaker.

Thank you, Lexus2000! That picture is exactly what I wanted to see and you helped so quickly. Love this place.
It looks like I'm missing a couple of brackets that attach to the trunk arms and to the torsion bars. Now if I can find these parts... I think I'll probably have to hunt some down in a salvage yard. Thank you guys very much.

I looked closer at my car, there is a plastic clamp/clip that holds both torsion rods in place. I see it in your picture so it may just be a matter of clipping the rods back in. If not, then just replace the clip part# 90469-08002. Also on the right hand hinge it looks the rod is out of place as well.
....oh yea the clip that holds the trunk lamp in, it's part of the lamp itself can't buy just the clip. I have an extra one I'll post a pic in a bit.
