Thanks for all the help guys. I was able to fix the leak. There have been several downpours since the fix now and there is no leak anymore. The leak was in the cowl area as pointed by #PFB. I took out the wipers by opening two nuts and then removed the plastic molding on the passenger side. The edge of this plastic molding that sits on the windshield had a sponge seal underneath which I replaced by purchasing a similar seal from Lowe's used to seal home windows and doors. I carefully removed the old seal completely by using sandpaper so the new seal would stick properly. Then I put the molding back and resealed the edges with silicon. Finally placed the wipers back. In all it took me about an hour.
Glad I read this. I've been having a similar issue with my ES. I have a wet cabin air filter and a wet passenger side floorboard. At first I thought it was the sunroof drains as this was very common when I worked for Toyota. They all checked out perfectly and passed air and water without issue.
Next, I suspected something with the cowl as it looked a little worn out and had been previously siliconed to the windshield but someone(I hope not somebody who calls themselves a technician). I will be purchasing some foam tape and affixing it to the cowl. Hopefully this will cure this annoying leak.
I went through the car wash and it didn’t leak, even with the undercarriage wash, but my car was parked at a slight forward angle when it leaked. Never happened again.
This was my problem. Pulled back the headliner (parts snap off but be careful as can break the plastic fasteners) on the driver side where I had water mostly in the back seat and found this tube which evacuates water out the back of the car was loose. There was a spring fastener that was weakened and needs to be replace but simply pushing the tube tighter stopped the leaking.
