P1121?? Already replaced the APPS
Hi all,
New member needing advice for my father's 2002 Lexus ES300. Original owner car with 40k miles.
He was driving home one day and discovered that he couldn't accelerate unless he really stepped on the gas. I took it out on a test drive and it felt like the first quarter of pedal travel did nothing to accelerate the car. I had to go almost half way down the pedal travel to get the car moving. I ran the scanner on it and it indicated p1121. I checked p1121 online and some Lexus owners (other models) have suggested it to be the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor on the throttle body. I then purchased a new sensor from Lexus ($128) and put it in the car but it didn't do anything to change the symptom. I am thinking it could be the sensor on the pedal, but wanted to check if anyone has experienced this on their ES300 or is familiar with p1121? I don't have a factory manual service so I can't go down the diagnosis checklist. Any input will be greatly appreciated!!

Sorry to say but I don't know much about the actual trouble code itself, however, testing the accelerator pedal assy (position sensor) you'll need an ohmmeter. Disconnect the sensor, and it should have 4 metal prongs. Test the resistance between the two on the bottom and then again on the two on the top, both should be within 2.25-4.75 k ohms. Also notes that test should be done at 68 degrees, however, I believe the difference would be minimal if not at that temperature....

Finally got around to removing the pedal sensor. It appears that the pedal sensor has 6 metal prongs and not four. I removed it and tested it, but was not able to get any reading from it. Maybe I am not testing the correct prong combination. Any advice?

I apologize, you're right. There are 6 pins. The two pins not listed in the picture below are the signal voltage from the ECM. If you would like, PM me your email and i'll send you the full document I am looking at.
