P1354 code has returned after replacing Bank 2 OCV
 

BearLexus posted a wonderful DIY thread on how to replace an OCV causing a 1354 error. I followed it precisely on my '99 es300, everything seemed great after a test drive, and I posted a big thank you in the DIY thread as I thought the problem was solved. Now I'm about 30 miles in after repair, CEL is back on, and the code along with its symptoms have returned.

When I was removing the wires for the Bank 2 OCV, I couldn't get them off, so I used a pair of pliers to push the clip down and pretty much broke the clip. The plug still plugs in to the new part, but it doesn't lock into place. I'm going to take some electrical tape to it, to make sure it stays firmly in place but it seems to be "somewhat" secure thusfar. I don't know if it's loose and that is what's causing the code to return or what.

Any ideas what could be causing the 1354 code to return after installing the new part? I'm not exactly a car guy and any responses might need to be dumbed down a bit for me. :/

Are you sure you replaced the correct sensor? P1354 refers to the bank 2 sensor, which is the one located closer to the front of the car. Confirm with this picture. I just read your post on BearsLexus's DIY. In it you said, "I just completed the replacement of the rear solenoid". Assuming you mean the one nearest the rear of the car, you replaced the wrong one.

In the 99 ES300 the 1MZ-fe engine is turned sideways in the engine compartment. So the front of the engine is on the passenger's side. The rear of the engine is on the driver's side. Bank one is the right hand side or the side nearest to the rear of the car. Bank two is the left hand side of the engine or the side nearest to the front of the car.

Tomf, you're completely right. After looking at your picture, I realized immediately that I had replaced the wrong OCV. I'll be ordering the right part tomorrow and installing it as soon as it arrives. Thanks you so much for the help and timely response.

let us know how you remove the bank 2 OCV, I had difficulties removing it due to lack of space, and yes my electric connector is stuck to the OCV too, did you lift the black color pin on the top to remove it?

Just checking in to this forum for the first time in awhile, and yes, it was my own error that caused the code to return. I replaced to proper OCV and everything has been running great since.

ah man, this repair was over a year ago now, and while I do remember having difficulties removing a connector, I don't recall exactly what it looked like or how it came loose. Sorry for the lack of help. :(
