WTF is this reference to young people being spoiled have anything to do with me? FYI, I'm not a youngster. I am in my 30s. I didn't say my car smelled like old people from them being in it, it just smells that way smart guy. I don't know whether you're having a bad bowel syndrome or what but ur rude comments certainly isn't appreciated especially when you know nothing about me.

Thanks y'all for the genuine responses. I will try the suggested and leave it in the sun for the UV to kill the smell if not, I will have the carpets shampooed and interior fully detail cleaned.

BTW, why is everyone so offensive about me saying it smells like old people? I was just describing the smell and it seemed to best fit the situation. I've never smelled a mothball so I don't know lol.

make sure you check under the seats or any hidden corner for anything that could cause the 'old" smell. You will need to shampoo and do a full treatment of leather (with Leatherique) and offcourse change/inspect the cabin filter too. Once you have done the checklist then come back and tell us if you still smell or not.

Because Its simply disrespectful towards older generation.

It is a common notion in the "developed" west though. Younger generation, on average, does not respect their parents/grand parents etc.

That's a pretty big generalization... I don't disagree with it, however, I've seen much worse than "smells like old people" being posted throughout these forums...

As well, I'm sure from that description the smell immediately came to mind for a lot of us who have posted on this thread. I know for me it sure did.

1. get rid of all carpets
2. deep cleaning, including all leather, under seat, it could be nasty
3. apply odor bomb, leave it for one night
4. put new carpets

I got the best remedy. If you can get your hands on a Bissel Pro heat green. Clean the carpets and headliner out with it and make sure you use the solution. This will extract out all the nasty moth ball and viagra juices lol

The ref article shows there is a difference in the smell of people as they age. It is interesting to note that the last paragraph of the article states:

"The fact that old person smell is usually thought of as unpleasant doesn’t seem to be a stumbling block here, though. Research subjects who didn’t know the source of the smell rated old person odors as less intense and less unpleasant than odors from younger people—suggesting that the smell on its own isn’t bad, but is perceived that way in certain contexts."

So perhaps we should just accept the fact that some people (even though they themselves might smell bad) just don't want to smell like old people.
