Hey guys,

So I have been searching and want to convert my mothers car to some HID's for her to see better at night.

I was wondering since I have the Projectors would it be easier for me to just buy some ballasts and bulbs and go that route?

Or is there something specific about the h7 bulb conversion that I would need to know about? ( I have seen it come up and about in my searching on this topic)

I only ask because it seems that the body style before ours have done some Projector conversions and retrofits and things like that. I was just wondering what you all thought of this?

After this is done I have been thinking of an LED Conversion for the Fog's as well.

It is easy enough.

I put on cheap ebay ones and they worked fine, but make sure you have a really good ground or it may not work. Use your volt meter to verify a good clean voltage and ground. Make sure the ballast is digital.

Be careful of the LEDs, the technology is not there yet and the Lumens are inadequate. I tested them and promptly returned them. If just for fog it will be fine I guess but it will throw less light then your OEM.

I bought a plug and play HID kit for my ES330 with halogen projectors.

The light output was horrible. The cut off shield blocks most of the light. You'd need to modify that somehow to allow more light out of the projector.

Ended up swapping back in the stock bulbs which are much brighter.

Since you have the Halogen version rather than the Xenon version of the headlight assemblies, I would go the LED route in this instance. I am thinking of getting them for my high beams.


This will also be a LOT easier than retrofitting an HID kit - it's literally plug and play. If you do go this route, please take before and after pics.

Which ones did you test? There are many and I agree that most do not compare to a HID kit. Some of the plug and play bulb only versions can put out as little as 600 lumens - only a few, like OPT7s, put out a comparable amount of light to a Xenon setup.

It was an ebay poop. I found the manufacturer of a product repackaged for a US company.

I forget but I was pretty disappointed.

Sort of want to try those lights I linked for my highbeams, I just rarely use the high beams and my projector low beams already reach much further than the 9005 high beam halogens.

try cleaning the lens with a rag soaked in small amnt tranny fluid. or buy a lens cleaning kit.

Not a fair comparison, you can select the color output to a more natural light like my HIDs initial start is blue then turns natural or incandecent style color. What is most important is LUMENS and lack of dead spots and/or glare.

HID on left, Osram Night Breakers on the right. I actually lowered my HID beam an inch to accomodate for glare. 3 years later still working great. Light color is "diamond white"

If you do go standard bulbs I recommend Night Breakers, ZERO dead spots but they do burn out faster then cheapo Auto Parts stock.

Whoa, priced dropped I am not affliated, just a very satisfied customer, their warranty is great. A bulb got dim and they replaced it in the 2 year warranty period.
