Default 93 ES300 - power steering filter ?

Does anyone know what this part is. Attached to it is a hose coming from around the right front headlight and going to the cooling fan. It is right near the top of the radiator. Is it the hydraulic power steering filter?

thanks.

Yes that's it. There is no scheduled replacement on that filter AFAIK. Looks like someone has been messing with it because I see a screw clamp on the hose.

Thanks for the confirmation. It is leaking so I'm going to replace it. I'm having a tough time finding the part number for it. Everything I look up has a longer tubeular shaped filter.

thanks again.

Before I ordered this part, I would make sure that it is the filter that is leaking. It may be the connecting hoses causing the leak. This part appears to be solid metal and well sealed. I doubt that it would develop a leak.

I had a similar leak on our 94 ES, and I thought it was the filter. I ordered a new one ($103.68 from Park Place Lexus in Texas) and replaced it. The leak continued. I finally traced the leak to the hose connection on the passenger side of the filter. I replaced the original clamp with a screw-on clamp, and this stopped the leak. My suspicion is that the factory clamps lose tension over the years, and that is when the leaks start. It appears that someone had already addressed this problem by putting the screw-on clamp on the passenger side of the filter. I would try tightening this clamp a bit, and install a similar type clamp on the driver side.

If you decide to replace the filter, the part number is 1609120010. The list price is $132.92. It appears to me that it is only available from Lexus and/or Toyota. I checked the price at www.toyotaworld.com, and their price was $99.69.

Thanks all. I will try tightening it up a bit. Thats a lot of $$$ for a filter !. With the comments on the screw-in connentor (I guess not factory) I asume the prior owner went down this path already.
thanks.

On split/leaky coolant hoses, I have trimmed a small amount of the hose (maybe 1") to cut out the split or leaky area. It gets you out of a pinch until hose can be replaced. In your case, if hose has a split at the clamped end ,maybe that might help just enough to stop leak.

I always thought PS was under big pressure and hose clamps wouldn't work (??)
