Road Trip in ES
hey gang,
I just got back from a recent weekend endeavour up to northern cali (i'm in so. cali). I must've travelled about 700+ miles altogether, and thats many hours of driving combined. Here are my thoughts on driving the ES for so long: - reliable car....no funny noises or indications that the car is getting "tired" even if the driver does. - the seats DO tire me a bit...my butt got sore. - car is smooth even at relatively high speeds, but my steering wheels(?)/tires(?)/front shocks(?) vibrate some at about 85-110 mph - great gas mileage....got up to 27miles per gallon, yay. - wind noise....bleh - i love driving. safe driving out there, everyone! |
I drove mine roundtrip from Cleveland to Atlanta in March, and I was very pleased. I was able to get 400 miles plus between fill-ups doing 65-75MPH driving.
Very quiet inside the cabin at highway speeds, and comfortable seats (especially with the lumbar support popped out). I am also a big fan of the stock sound system, it's much better than the one I had in my 3 series. I did also get it up to 90 at 3AM in the TN mountains, it's the fastest I've ever taken the car. |
I drove all the way from southern California to Philly, PA. Thats 2500 miles. It took me 3 days and 2 nights with only a few hours break each day. By the time I got to Philly, my transmission died and I had to rebuild the whole thing. Cost me 30 bills. Other than that, car works wonderfully now. :) maybe good enough for a trip back to CA after my graduate studies here in Philly. Maybe this time, I wont drive nonstop and take it slower...

Mine's been up to Toronto twice (10 hours each way), Cleveland and Chicago one (6-7 hours each way), and Texas (18 hours each way). It is a very comfy highway cruiser, its sweet spot seems to be about 75-85 mph. Above that speed it gets a little bit to floaty for my taste, with the stock suspension. Squarehat is right, the stock sound system is very good, compared to the systems in the BMWs in our family.

Not too bad.
I've done two roadtrips in my '96. From Alamogordo, NM to Wyoming and back, and from Alamogordo to Guymon, OK and back.
It's a great highway cruiser in terms of handling and speed. The seats (leather) are pretty comfortable--almost as good as the ones in a Honda Civic. The stereo is outstanding; it makes the time and miles just fly by, and even the tape deck sounds good! The excellent stereo comes in very handy for drowning out the outrageous wind noise. On the highway, I get 25-30 mpg. |
I've been in an ES for extended period of time before also..
I'd agree with Mezoom! on some of those things..I'm kinda a big guy (6') and no Lexus seats I've ever sat in are comfortable for me. The stereo yes, is good too. 27MPG>!> I wish! The most I can get in my LS is like 19 if I try! |
I drove about 9 hours in my ES on Saturday with 2 breaks of a couple hours. My rear and lower back were kinda sore by the end of the night. Other than that the car handled it very well. I'm about 6' too and I can get pretty comfortable in the ES, headroom is a little short on the passenger side unless the seat is leaned back pretty far. The speakers in my kickpanels prevent me from stretching my left leg, so that gets old on a long trip too, but that's my own doing rather than Lexus's.
