Bring the microphone cable under the dashboard. Be careful not to get it near the pedals. It can be very dangerous if it gets caught on your leg while you are trying to brake.

I couldn’t get the best pictures, as it’s a tight fit down there and barely any light.

Now pull the microphone wire thru the little gap between the driver’s footwell and the center console.

Plug the microphone wire into the Bluetooth dongle.

Attach a piece of Velcro to the back off the GROM unit.

Attach a piece of Velcro to anywhere (in the center console) you find a place to mount the GROM unit. I mounted it right behind the climate controls, I believe onto a HVAC duct.

Insert and tighten the 4 bolts back into the radio-mounting bracket. (only two are shown In the picture below)

Go ahead and pop the climate control unit back in.

Now, turn on the radio. Press the CD button till you see “CD1”, this will allow you to use the GROM unit. If you press the CD button again you will see “CD” which lets you use the internal cd changer.

At this point, I paired my iPhone to the GROM unit. (This step may not be applicable to you.)

Success! It works!

The sound quality is amazing, it truly sounds better than the CD player.

Overall, this was a very simple installation and well worth the time and effort.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them below.

Looks like a great DIY. Thank you for posting this, I haven't wanted to to change my 03 ES 300 to a nav system but I have always wondered how I could link up my ipod/iphone to my car without using a cassette adapter or fm transmitter as they have horrible quality. I will definitely be looking into doing this myself.

How long did this take you?

You're welcome!

I would say it took me about 45 minutes, a lot of that time had to do with trying to take good pictures (even though some still came out bad).

And, yes this GROM Unit is amazing when it comes to audio quality. It certainly sounds better than the CD's, and of course no doubt beats out an fm transmitter/modulator and cassette adapter.

Good to hear, I've already been convinced and bought the GROM USB Adapter. I'll be sure to come back to this thread if I have any further questions, but this was so nicely written I doubt I'll have much trouble. Thanks again.
