Default Alternator issues after being replaced. Where to go?

Basically replaced the alternator and now my red battery light pops up from time to time. It’s usually about 10 minutes after driving. I’ve gone a couple days stretches with no light just for it to come back. I checked the connections then realized the alternator nut looked sort of burnt you could say although I’m not sure. The nut that came off the bad alternator wasn’t burnt looking like this new one and I don’t see any burnt connections. Could my alternator be bad? Also my last alternator wasn’t burnt looking like this neither was the nut as shown below.

Clean everything up with a maroon Scotch-Brite pad and see what happens.
