I was one of the lazy ones who paid Factory Radio service to do my aux. John does nice work and very quickly. He put the aux jack in the back, and a switch on the front of the radio, so I can switch back and forth between FM and aux with the switch, don't have to unplug the iPod. I ran the cable to and put my Nano inside the ashtray. I hate cords hanging off the front of the radio.

I do understand this is a simple matter of soldering to the output of one of the sources to the amp. I have a friend that could solder on to the circuit board too, but for the price it is done and I am happy.

I have a little more to do with this, to make it a bit more integrated, I'll make a new thread when I get phase 2 done.

works pretty well. have to turn the volume up about 2x as high for normal volume and sometimes get some weird static, but works. trying to figure out the static still...

I have a 4th gen es. A 2003. Is there anyone out there who has the schematics and can lend some information about adding an AUX ?

I cannot stand the wire coming out of my tape deck. But Other than the sound of the motor in the tape deck going round and round and the visible wire coming out of the deck, it's pretty good.

Regarding the 4th gen, I think if you look for the wires/ leads leading from the cassette head to a soldering point to which you can solder your aux wire to.

I think I'll look into it soon. The only turn off is having to unplug it so it doesn't interfere with the radio. I wouldn't mind mechanically tricking the tape deck to think it has a tape in it but disabing the motors or something. It would be nice if tape mode can be totally converted to aud. I think the take sounds good and I've considered running the wire of the tape out the back of the radio and, again, trying disable the motor and the eject button

There has to be a Switch that tells the radio that either "yes, a tape is in the deck and play it" or "no, there is no tape and go back to the last input source because the fact that there is no tape makes it pointles to stay on tape mode." We need to identify that switch and make it permanently tell the deck that there is a tape. We can disable the motors that play and eject the tape - perhaps measure the resistance it causes and replace it with a close resister - ans lastly find out how to have the aud only work when on tape
