2005 ES330 Crankshaft Pulley Recall?
Saw this on one of the websites I frequent...
http://www.autos.ca/general-news/toy...nkshaft-pulley
I'm just wondering if this is a major repair or something simple...what I mean is, while they are performing this fix, do they have to tear down any major components & should I be considering replacing the timing belt or any other items during this time if easy accesss is there? My 05 ES330 now has close to 76k miles on the clock.
Any thoughts, suggestions are appreciated.

It's a bit more to get into the timing belt, but if you car's age and/or mileage dictate time for timing belt, it would be a good time to do it. Basically, the recall will involve removing the external belt(s), removing and replacing the harmonic balance/pulley, re-installing the external belts

I had my 04 timing belt changed at 87000 miles and also the water pump and other belts with no labor charge at a Lexus dealer. As for the recall, I'm going to check with the dealer, my car has been running great. No noises or steering problem.

One curious question I do have regarding this recall...why was there no mention of the 04 or 06 MY's?

From my reading they are talking about the crank pulley --- the large pulley connected to the crank at the front of the engine.
If the pulley fails -- you obviously would loose the belt running around it --- so no power steering.
The loss of the steering is the safety problem ... the pulley normally just bolts on. No touching of the timing belt to do this.
On many cars the pulley is plastic!
