Default A/C recirculating fan problems

Hi. I've got a 2004 ES330 that just recently developed some A/C troubles. When it's really hot, the "auto" button tends to run the A/C full blast with the re-circulate button lit up. The problem is that, although the LCD gauge shows the highest speed, the fan is hardly blowing at all. If I turn off “re-circulate”, it will once again blow at the normal, high speed. Any ideas about what I need to look in to? I would think it was the fan motor, but as far as i know there is only one and it doesn't seem likely that it would work fine in one setting but not in another. I think there must be some damper that closes when on re-circulate, that isn't functioning properly. Thanks for the help.
