New leather? '92 ES
I want new leather in my '92 ES300. The old leather is in bad shape. Does anyone have any suggestions for a source? Please advise... thanks!

How bad is bad? I've got some sun damage on the tops of the back seats, that seems to be a common complaint, especially on the darker leathers, but the seating surfaces are pretty decent. The only place the leather looks bad is if you peer in through the back window, and every time I see an ES of my body style in the parking lot, I check the seams, I'm not the only one with damage.
If you want to reupholster, a company called Katzkin makes good quality kits. A few people in the SC300/400 forum have used their kits. Those people said they paid about $650, that may have been with a group buy discount. Add another couple hundred if you want to have someone put the covers on for you. I'm not sure if you can reuse the heating elements with new covers, so keep that in mind if you have heated seats (that was one of my big concerns with a Katzkin kit) |
Katzkin
I think I called Katzkin before and they did not make a kit for the '92 year Lexus ES300. I'll double-check.. any other sources? They looked good..

Just checked..
Called and they said they did not make one. Anyone else know if a source for '92-96 interiors?

Classic Soft Trim
Classic Soft Trim, www.classicsofttrim.com, makes a kit, too. I once spoke with a sales rep, and the kit is based off the pattern for the cloth seats, not the leather ones. So they will fit, but the seams are in different places with respect to the OEM leather. Import Toys also sells leather kits, you might want to check with them.

Cool
I'll check out Classic Soft Trim. Do you have a number or website for the other guys? Thanks!

Import Toys
I checked, and it looks like Import Toys (importtoys.com) is just a Katzkin reseller, although they do mention "custom kits" So they may be able to do it, although it isn't cheap. Another option is to find a seat in good condition from a salvage yard, and pull the cover. If your interior is black, they may be able to dye another color black. If you come across a good source for salvage seats, let me know.

ok i have a 1995 lexus es300 and i'm havin' the same problem....
i was lookin' at http://www.leathermagic.com/htrepair.htm and http://www.leatherrepairkits.com/See...ir_is_done.htm i'm leaning towards the second one but i dunno, i'm afraid to buy it i don't wanna mess up my seats with some scam product.... so i was wonderin' if anyone tried this stuff before? |
I don't know about you guys, but the leather itself on mine is free of tears, but I have two places (on the passenger seat and back bench) where the seams are ripped (the thread is gone). I can't find any shops locally that will repair it, either. :(

Leatherseats.com, Possible Group Buy
I came across a company called leatherseats.com. They have a kit marked 92-95 ES (96 is identical to 95, so I think it would work). The pricing for a kit is $679, and they offer group buy packages. I'd love to start a group buy on this. They offer two-tone, perforated, and suede (I assume Ecsaine like the IS300) insert options, not sure how much that adds to the price.
Fellow 92-96 ES owners, how much of an interest is there in a group buy? I'm still looking for to repair first, so if I find a shop that does seam work I may go that route, to keep the factory look. |

Cool
I would be interested. I have a taupe interior; could they match it? Would it include the leather in the door panels? If not, I guess it wouldn't match.. would it? Lemme know!
