Heat temp doesnt stay consistent
 

This year I realized that the heat temperature doesn't stay consistent. When I first turn on the heat it will warm up the interior cabin to the desired temperature. After 20 mins or so when it has reached its temperature the fan goes down to one bar which is fine but then it feels like cool air is blowing from the vents. I have tried turning off the a/c button and still the same results. I don't remember it being like this last winter. I had my a/c fixed this summer where they changed the compressor, expansion valve and drier. Could that have anything to do with this? What do you guys think the problem is? Thank you.

That's automatic climate control. It will regulate the temperature to the degree you have it set to. The air coming out of the vents may feel cold, but the cabin temp should remain stable. If the air coming from the dash vents bothers you, you can redirect it to the floor vents.

I understand the auto climate and how it regulates the temp but I feel like after the initial warm up the temperature drops below what I have set to. For example I like to keep it on 75 degrees, I turn on the heat it gets nice and warm and then after awhile it feels like its 70 degrees or below. It wasn't like that last year, I would set it to 75 degrees and it felt like 75 degrees even after hours of driving. Is there a way to measure the cabin temperature?

stick it into the A/C central vent to monitor the temp and see if it's just you or the system is in fact not operating properly.

I have a '93, but the '96 probably has a similar set-up. Check to see that the interior temp sensor is properly connected and not blocked, as it may have been removed or disconnected to change the expansion valve (my sensor is behind the left side of the dash, down low, mounted in a little grille/holder).
