Default Fluid brands?

I'm thinking of changing all the fluids and was wondering what yall recommend for each. Also, what stores or sites have the products for a good price. Thanks

Mobil 1 synthetic oil 5 quart jug from Walmart, Toyota tranny fluid, Any DOT 4 brake fluid, Toyota Red coolant. Wait I'm not sure if your 4ES takes the Red coolant or not.

I use the same brands and also recommend going to Wally World for Mobil-1 synthetic since it's around $8-10 cheaper then auto stores... I just did a tranny drain and fill with Toyota ATF T-IV (as per the transmission fluid dipstick label) and the incremental power steering fluid change with Royal Purple PSF.

I also get Toyota brand motor oil filters from the local Toyo dealer for $6 each.

+1 on the Mobil 1. Not to sound like an advertisement, but we switched our Tacoma to that stuff, and it went from 24MPG to 27MPG- pretty much city driving. Infact I just put it in my ES as well!

Sorry to bring up this old thread, but I don't get it.

Went to Toyota today and they claim Toyota does not make ATF Dextron II or equivalent. They only stock CASTROL DEXTRON IV and it is the factory recommended fluid for my 96.

The only thing they do make is the ATF WS which is not recommened for my year.

This is true, but I'm still not sure if you can use T-IV (Toyota only make T-IV ATF) on any ES before year 2000. Because Toyota no longer make D-II/III, most people buy something from the aftermarket such as Royal Purple, Red Line, or Mobil 1 Synthetic. I still haven't decided on which fluid I want to get, all of them are great but RP and RL are the priciest per quart, and it seems like Mobil 1 is hard to find at a reasonable price.

No they make Regular and Semi-Synthetic as well, if you're referring to the engine oil. What I meant by Mobil 1 Synthetic is their Automatic Transmission Fluid.

The early boxes use Dextron -- use what the manual indicates. The dealers do not sell the Dextron. The introduction of the electronic transmissions allowed for more shift control -- so Type IV. This is Dextron with modifiers for the newer units.

Remember this is transmission fluid -- its all synthetic ..... it is not the same as motor oil.

You can use Mobil 1 -- it is overkill for a v6 ES -- but it should not hurt. Use the IV in the boxes that call for it.

Actually Torrance Toyota and Lexus both sell the CASTROL DEXTRON IV for 94-96 ES300 as OEM spec ATF.. Just went to Autozone at half the price. The old time parts guy explained Toyota use to makethe ATF but only CASTROL makes the recommended Toyota Dextron spec ATF. He suggested not to use anything else.

She seems to be happy with it in the Trans, Differential and Power Steering.

The old boxes use Dextron -- What I wanted to say is that the dealers do not sell a Toyota product labeled for that transmission --- you use the generic Dextron. Originally, I believe it was Dextron II -- now superseded by later Dextron versions. Dextron IV is not the same as Toyota IV

Why the desire for synthetic? Are you planning on having longer oil change intervals?
