Engine Dying out when stopping

Unhappy Engine Dying out when stopping

Can someone help me, I have a 92 ES300 with 150k and I was wondering if this was a timing issue where when I brake, it stalls occasionally. Any clues? I hope this is an easy thing to fix, cause this is such a nusance. Help someone....please.

My friend's '93 LS currently has the same issue. Actually, for like the past year.
Can't help you with what the problem is, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

How's the alternator? Is your battery at full power?
Sometimes a $83 diagnostic check at the Lex dealer let's you know what work your car needs.

Its has a new battery, I am pretty sure the alternator is in good shape.

I had that problem on my camry and it was due to a loose hose, in most cases it can be either a leak or and electric problem.

Would you be able to be more specific, since I have no idea where to start. I have asked a couple mechanics and one even raised my idle, but none really know of the problem. Thank you in advance.

i should have responded earlier but i didnt see this thread. i say have your air hoses checked, and your fuel lines, etc. basically they will do a thorough tune up of your car when u take it in. has your car ever been in a front end damage collision? air hose problems usually lead to trouble when taking off, but i know some on CL have experienced probs like yours when stopping. definitely change your motor mounts if you havent before. a very small possibility is your ecu. i dont think this is a very extremely urgent problem, its just more like a nuisance and in the long run, after having to restart your car at every other stop sign and stop light, it will wear out your battery.

Does it tend to happen more after exiting the freeway?

If so, check the rubber hose behind the air filter, it may be cracked due to a bad motor mount; which can cause stalling on idle, especially after it's been run on the highway for a while.

Yes,
Especially after I drive for a while on the highway. So check that hose? So the air filter right by my battery? Thanks for all the info.

Check the ribbed rubber hose between the air filter and the engine (between the ribs is the most likely place for cracks); I'm not real familiar with the parts of engines, but hopefully that's explaining it well enough.

I hope that helps, I was having that problem too. My motor mount was bad, so the engine was moving and flexing that hose, which eventually cracks. I've now fixed the motor mount and put in a cone air filter, and the problem got much better; I just put some black silicone over the little cracks in mine, that might help until I can fix it right if needed.
